Character Biography:
History:
Charles Emerson Winchester III was born to a very wealthy family of Boston Brahmins, the middle child in his family. His older brother, Timmy, died when Charles was very young; since then, his relationship with his sister, Honoria (ah-nor-EE-ah) has strengthened considerably. Despite his pride and respect of intelligence, he is not at all ashamed of his sister's stuttering problem.

After graduating summa cum laude from Harvard Medical School, Winchester=2 0thought that he had his life in perfect order. Shortly after the outbreak of the Korean War, Charles recieved his draft notice. He pleaded and tried to buy out anyone that he could, but his money couldn't save him -- however, he was given a comfortable position at Tokyo General as opposed to being on the front line.

Winchester's C.O. was Colonel Horrace Baldwin, a man who was in Charles debt $600 after being beaten at cribbage. In return, Baldwin volunteered Winchester for duty at MASH 4077, assuring him that it would only be a two day stint. Two days, bah! The 4077th would be his home for the duration of the war.

Charles' arrogance made a poor first impression, and continued to be a driving source of conflict among the doctors in the MASH unit. But, as others came to know him, they realized that he had a mischievious, manipulative and perhaps even manic sense of humor. Though he remained at most times stand-offish and enjoyed time by himself, he eventually began to fit in. He rarely ever allowed his vulnerable side to be shown, and though he may have lost his pride, he never lost his dignity.

Personality in seven words or less: arrogant, dignified, clever, condescending, articulate, appreciative.
How Others Perceive Your Character: Charles immediately comes across as arrogant and condescending: because he very rarely ever allo ws anyone to see his vulnerable side, this is mostly what others see in him. Despite the situation, Winchester remains dignified and curt.
Beliefs, Convictions, Morals: He's an anti-FDR Republican with strong convictions and opinions. Although he understands the need for war, after living it, he can't understand what would bring people down to such primitive levels.
Reason(s) for Escaping to Canada: After the war ended, the boat ride felt like it took forever but... this was ridiculous. He went back to Boston to find his family's home following the war, but didn't see any signs of them anywhere. At first, Charles believed that America had in reality lost the war and the country was changed -- he couldn't believe that time went on without him. Trying to piece it all together, he fled the States altogether and went on a whim to Canada.
Their DHAs [Dreams, Hopes, and Aspirations] for Canada: To fill in the gaps of time, to accept his time in the war and move on with his life, to find out if any of his family is still alive, namely, his sister Honoria.
